Carter: A would-be Percival. Uppity, but isn't everyone at that age?
Recruited by the Technocracy straight out of UConn, Theodore Casey spent the prime of his life as a Watcher for the New World Order. Little surprise, then, that he was among the first to see the writing on the wall: while the Union still meant well, it was increasingly losing track of its priorities. Quietly, carefully, he built himself an escape procedure— and when a botched field support operation took out his family as collateral damage, he exercised it.
Jeremiah Black has worked as a computer consultant in Philadelphia for over twenty years. Well, not really, but it would take a lot of digging to find any holes in the story; his CV lists several past clients whose points of contacts have conveniently moved on. His most recent ones are actually legitimate— and in his free time, he still pursues those old ideals, free of the old bureaucratic constraints. Perhaps he'll live long enough that the rest of the Union will find its way out of the weeds.
